today i trooped round a dozen bookshops in this place trying to find the following books: ellen wood, 'east lynne' thomas hardy, 'desperate remedies' wilkie collins, 'no name' could i find any of them? could i feck. actually i found one single copy of 'desperate remedies' (in amongst hundreds of copies of the Mayor of bloody Casterbridge and Under the sodding Greenwood Tree) - but it cost £50.

i managed to borrow East Lynne and Desperate Remedies off my housemate who also does my course - great success!
desperate remedies is a little hard going. it takes a while to get into Hardy's style, a while longer than other authors notably Bronte (i have infinite respect for the Brontes).

East Lynne, thank god, is a lot easier to get into. it's actually very well written (I don't know why i sound so surprised...)
