i am INCREDIBLY dubious about this... really think that harrison ford might be too old and puffy.. and am not at all convinced by shea lebeouf or cate blanchett

this was my little review....
i didn't really expect much, and to be honest, my expectations were fully met. harrison ford's acting is the same as ever, and he still looks pretty good in a well-fitting white tshirt.. but i can say with confidence that indiana jones as a movie franchise peaked with the one with sean connery in it. it's just not the same any more (an obvious statement given ford's advancing age but still). whether lucas has lost it, or spielberg, or the script writers, or the actors... i don't know. but this definitely dragged. shia lebeouf was at least okay, at worst incredibly poncey (there's no other word for it).. spielberg's ex wife still can't act.. i've never seen cate blanchett give a bad performance but she seemed completely pointless in this movie!? i'm a huge fan of ray winstone but all he seemed to do was shout "JONESY!" repeatedly. the best way to sum up this film, is a good premise poorly executed. the myriad archeological references made indiana seem more well-rounded, more credible as an archeologist, but the film as a whole feels clumsy and clunky, fragmented, poorly put together.. the notion that aliens built the pyramids is a popular and widely-discussed theory, and indeed has already been explored by the science fiction genre.. so yes it's a good idea, but i don't think this movie was the right place to explore that notion, and if it was, then spielberg/lucas/whoever made a total hash of it. the flying saucer rising out of the ground at the end - what the fuuuuuuuuck. cringe! admittedly parts of the film were enjoyable - the fight breaking out in the milkshake bar, indiana climbing inside a lead-lined fridge - but those moments are not enough to sustain a film with this kind of hype behind it. what on earth was up with the dude from neighbours and his accent? and the scrubs janitor!? lol. that's just me being picky. overall this is about as much as i expected from an aging harrison ford resurrecting the indiana jones franchise, perhaps because i'm incredibly cynical, BUT, i must say i'm disappointed in lucas and spielberg for allowing this to be the best they could do.

THE JANITOR! I actually said it quite loud in the cinema when he came on and got a few dirty looks, obviously it was the only showing with people who'd never seen scrubs before. I forgot about all the bits you mentioned as good.. so it cant have been that good!
