has anyone seen the new red hot chili peppers video for "dani california"? there's something about the nirvana parody that really annoys me. how can they have sung "and cobain can you hear this fear singing songs off station to station" and then take the piss? i know, i'm probably taking it too seriously... but god it annoys me like the weird al parody of smells like teen spirit.... even now, i don't take kindly to nirvana parodies or piss-takes.

the reason i posted this in the Kurt section is that i can't help but feel it's mainly a parody of kurt... i know full well that dave and krist are involved in the whole thing and that they're parodying them as well... but it always seems to be focussed on kurt like anthony kiedis putting on a 'kurt' wig..

I've not actually seen that part of the video, so I can't really give my opinion. I would however like to say that it would be great if keidis, or somebody else in the Pepper's would comment on why they did it.
I can't say I'm really offended by any of the Nirvana parodies or spoofs I've ever seen or heard. That might be partly because I'm a fan of Weird Al, and the few others things I've heard really suck. I can see how people would get offended.
But remember, that kind of thing is what drove Kurt over the edge. With fame and fans comes hate and critics. And especially if your really not looking for fame to begin with, it can make you do regrettable things.
(This officially ends my long winded responce. I hope no takes offense.)

no offence taken your view is just as valid as mine or any one else's. i think i'm just oversensitive when it comes to bands that really meant a lot to me at one time. i still don't really like it when people parody blink182, even though they've parodied themselves hundreds of times. (no, i'm not comparing blink182 with nirvana )

If I remember right though the band thought that the weird Al parody was hilarious probably, i can imagine that they would have. i still don't like it, mostly because it makes the song sound like a dirge. i am a big Weird Al fan but there are a few of his songs that are REALLY annoying lol.

I think it's funny. Smells like Nirvana is one of those songs I find annoying because it simply isn't funny. There are a few others that are crap that I can't think on at the moment.

Considering Kurt is long dead and gone, he still continues to just as irritating after death as he was when he was around. This is mainly down to two factors 1) his fans (people who don't like good music therefore invent there own paraody of musical genre called "grunge") 2) sheep who are adament to sow on badges of nirvana to there school bags, yes you guessed it kids, just to proove there individuality. i.e. "No mum i'm not gonna eat my sprouts!" etc. The early nineties was a good time for music, perhaps not all the commerical rubbish Adamski, Take That, Boyzone etc, but NWA Pearl Jam, Ramones (lol even if still clutching at chance to still make it "big" - Mundo Bizzaro is wank, not to be confused with there earlier stuff though, which is fantastic), Sound Garden, RATM...i've prooved my point, but Nirvana did spoil it! How overated is NEVERMIND anyway!! Smells like teen spirit is a crap song, boring lyrics and not that a good style of guitar playing... like Tom Morello on a bad day (Kurt couldn't handle effects, would of been more effective as a 'Johnny Ramone' style guitarist but hey, shit happens). All Nirvana's videos are also about as interesting as paint drying. The 'on-drugs and distorted picture' most of them seem to have is fairly irritating to watch and make me want to switch over or be sick over Kurt. To be honest can't really be arsed to post much more _ If your insistant on listening to bullshit, the more fool you....be like normal pretentious white kids and listen to rap.
