i think there might have been a thread about this before because i vaguely remember having a conversation with ashley about this...
Malibu by Hole
Crash and burn All the stars explode tonight How'd you get so desperate? How'd you stay alive?
Help me please Burn the sorrow from your eyes Oh, come on be alive again Don't lay down and die
Hey, hey You know what to do Oh, baby, drive away, from Malibu
Get well soon Please don't go any higher How are you so burnt when You're barely on fire?
Cry to the angels I'm gonna rescue you I'm gonna set you free tonight, baby Pour over me
Hey, hey We're all watching you Oh, baby, fly away, to Malibu Cry to the angels And let them swallow you Go and part the sea, yeah, in Malibu
And the sun goes down I watch you slip away And the sun goes down I walk into the waves And the sun goes down I watch you slip away And I would
And I knew Love would tear you apart Oh and I knew The darkest secret of your heart
Hey, hey I'm gonna follow you Oh baby, fly away, yeah, to Malibu Oceans of angels Oceans of stars Down by the sea is where you Drown your scars
I can't be near you The light just radiates I can't be near you The light just radiates
those lines i've highlighted in bold are the ones that most remind me of Kurt and Courtney's feelings for Kurt, they're the lines that most make me think that this song is about him. it's a really beautiful song and also very sad and true...

hi Em....anyway bk to the point- erm,yeh I think there is a STRONG possibility that it was written about kurt,I have thought that before.Especially the bit that says: "Please don't go any higher" This lyric really stood out to me for two reasons. One is the obvious conclusion-kurts drug addiction but the other reason could be an indication towards Kurt not being fully able to deal with the "fame game" let's face it,once Nirvana had hit the dizzy heights of their career when everyone wanted a bit of kurt, he started to resent everything and evryone, and Courtney-as his wife obviously thought that it would be a good thing for him to not to go any higher in terms of fame....just my thoughts- what do you think?

hey em i agree, there's so much about this song that stands out, it's almost like beautifully written but badly disguised code, then again i guess courtney knew that the fans would know what she was talking about. sometimes i listen to her music and i wonder how on earth she survived to get to this point. all this relapse stuff is just history catching up with her

Theres alot of ppl who thik she killed Kurt, although I think he was murder I don't think she had anything to do with it. And I must say those lyrics certainly do look like they're about Kurt.
Emma, you asked how she could survibe this long...Frances Bean, look how over protective she is of her, it's as if she feels of she lets Frances go her world will go, and it already is going with the drug problems and that dumb as sueing 'cus he got hit in the mosh pit, so stupid, I hate ppl , man.
So that's my opinion.

i know this is kind of turning into a courtney love thread, and fair enough because she was a big part of kurt's later life, but i'm listening to Softer, Softest and she really did go through a lot of shit, still continues to... i'm not saying she's a saint and should be exhonerated of all wrong-doings just because she's been through some difficulties and i would hope that no one here would assume that that's what i am saying... you get what i mean right?

I don't think we all know exactly how Courtney felt about Kurt.
I'd guess thats how she felt about him...I mean she did marry him.

yeah , and then she later said she regreted ever marrying him...
What about in the song, Awful... she goes,
"he's so deep like dirty water god he's awful. you're lost, oh, where's your daddy, its so awful.."
kind of sounds like shes referring to Frances not having a dad.. a lot of her songs can be turned into sounding like they are about Kurt, i wonder which ones really are.

a line in malibu thats maybe not as obvious that it could be about Kurt... "all the stars explode tonight." .. i mean, if it is about him, referring not to a star in the sky but as a famous person in hollywood... and the whole expolding thing........ get where im going with this?
... i could see her meaning that
